With the rise of the far-right and fake news on social media – the outcome of the 2017 German Federal Election would shape the following elections throughout the EU.

Background

The sharing of fake news and far-right political memes proved that if something appears real, it must be true. This thinking has led to the increase of fake news and rise of the far-right ideology. In other words the far-right on social media are impulsive, and easily manipulated.

Insight:

A high percentage of the Members of the Far-Right are close-minded and less likely to travel and experience different cultures as a result of their political beliefs. How might their impulsive habits be used against them to benefit them and the rest of the European Union?

Idea

We convince those that are easily swayed into not voting and experience a different culture and mindset instead. It has been proven that the more exposure to different cultures one has, the more open minded they become.

In the days before the election Ab-in-den-urlaub.de will target members of the far-right on social media and different websites with trips to different cultures at the lowest possible prices. And for a very limited time these trips will only be offered to and visible by those who have far-right affiliations. Either on social media or by their browsing habits.

The Catch

While these prices seem too good to be true – they actually are. Unfortunately they are only available during the weekend of the federal election. By using their gullibility and impulsiveness against them, ab-in-den-urlaub is forcing those to choose between a vote, and a really cheap vacation for them and their family. And studies show when it comes to the far right they are more likely to choose good for family over society.
